Philips Simplicity LED lighting

Royal Philips Electronics showed off several innovative designs at their Simplicity-led Design event September 21 in Paris. While there’s not a lot of explanatory text availble, there are some photos from the LED lighting exhibit that I think are fantastic. Much like the “concept cars” on display at an auto show, these LEDs lights won’t be available in the market for some time if at all, unfortunately. But the innovations behind them will find their way into lighting products, you can be assured.

These LED bulbs allow simple control of brightness and color with hand gestures. You can try out a flash demo here. (click on the donut at the right side.)

The Chameleon is quite interesting–it “looks” at the object you present and adjusts its color to match. That’s a clever idea.

I don’t know how practical touching the actual lamp would be in most cases. Mine tend to be up at ceiling height.
